How to play Ticker Legend
One weekly contest: pick 6 starting coins plus up to 4 bench coins, make one lineup swap a day, and get ranked by the sum of your coins' percent price changes. Every other rule exists to keep that one game simple, fair and hard to game. It's always free — you play for rank, season points and bragging rights.
The big idea
Five things that define the game
- One score. The sum of percent changes decides the ranking. Your order prediction adds a small bonus and breaks near-ties.
- Shared universe. Coins are not exclusive — any number of players can hold the same coin, so the field can scale to any size.
- Neutral ranking. You're measured against other players, not against zero. A −11.6% week still beats a −16.7% week.
- Free to play. No entry fees, prize pools or cash payouts. You compete for rank, points and season standing.
- Public weekly leagues. One open contest per week, shared by everyone.
The weekly rhythm
Contest lifecycle
Each contest runs a 60-hour entry window, locks Wednesday at 12:00 ET, and scores for exactly 7 days. The next contest locks the moment this one settles, so one price snapshot per week serves as both the end price for one contest and the start price for the next — there's always a contest live and one open for entry.
| Phase | Window (ET) | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Entry open | Mon 00:00 – Wed 12:00 | Build a 6-coin lineup plus up to 4 bench coins, and rank the 6 starters best to worst. Roster and order can be changed, or the entry withdrawn, until lock. |
| Lock | Wed 12:00 | Rosters freeze. Start price = 5-minute VWAP over 11:55–12:00. Field size is fixed. |
| Live | Wed 12:00 → next Wed 12:00 | Leaderboard refreshes about every 60 seconds. One lineup swap per day at 12:00 ET, Thursday through Tuesday. |
| Settle | Next Wed 12:00 | End price = 5-minute VWAP over 11:55–12:00. Final scores, order bonus and ties are computed. |
| Results | Within 1 hour of settle | Points and standings post to your Wallet ledger. Results are open to dispute for 24 hours. |
Scoring starts at lock, never at entry — so entering late on Wednesday morning gives no price advantage over entering on Monday.
Draft
Coin universe and roster rules
A roster is a starting lineup of 6 different coins — exactly 2 from each of three tiers at lock — plus a bench of up to 4 wildcard coins from any tier. This keeps picks non-exclusive and skill-driven while stopping the field from collapsing into six volatile small caps.
| Tier | Definition | Slots | Role in the game |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue chip | Top 10 by market cap | 2 | Stable anchor; separates careful players from gamblers |
| Mid cap | Ranks 11–30 | 2 | Where most of the real skill shows |
| Small cap | Ranks 31–60 | 2 | Moonshot upside, capped at two slots |
Eligibility screen. A coin enters the universe only if it's priced by at least 3 venues or index feeds, meets a minimum 30-day average daily volume (high enough that one trade can't move a 5-minute VWAP), has been listed for at least 90 days, and is not a stablecoin, wrapped or staked derivative, or leveraged token.
Universe freeze. The list and tier assignments are published Sunday night and frozen at Monday 00:00 ET for that contest. A coin that changes rank mid-contest keeps its original tier.
Roster rules. No duplicate coins across lineup and bench, and all 6 starters must be ranked best to worst (1–6) before the entry is accepted. The bench is optional and is not ranked.
Predict
Bench and daily swaps
Your 6 starters score; the bench waits. Once a day you can swap one bench coin into the lineup — the week plays like a fantasy football season, and each day is a new lineup decision.
| Rule | Setting |
|---|---|
| Bench size | 0 to 4 coins, picked before lock with the starters |
| Bench tiers | Any tier, no limit (blue chip, mid cap or small cap) |
| Swaps | One per day: one starter moves to the bench and one bench coin takes its slot |
| Swap windows | 12:00 ET Thursday through Tuesday, 6 in all. Wednesday 12:00 is lock and settle, so no swap then |
| Swap price | The window's 5-minute VWAP (11:55–12:00), the same method as lock and settle |
| Requests | Queue a swap any time before a window; change or cancel it until 11:55 ET. A missed day does not carry over |
| Lineup tiers after a swap | At least 1 blue chip, 1 mid cap and 1 small cap in the starting six |
| Bench changes | None after lock. The 10 coins are set for the week; only who starts changes. A benched coin can come back later |
How a swapped slot scores. Each lineup slot adds up the returns of every coin that held it, each measured only while it was starting. A coin's stint runs from the VWAP when it entered the lineup to the VWAP when it left it (or settle). Bench coins score nothing.
Worked example. You start ETH, bench SUI, and on Friday at 12:00 swap SUI in for ETH. ETH's −2.0% from Wednesday to Friday counts, then SUI's +4.0% from Friday to settle counts — the slot returns +2.0%. ETH's full-week move and SUI's moves before Friday do not count; only each coin's starting stint does.
Exceptions. A starter that is delisted or halted freezes at its last valid VWAP and can still be swapped out at that frozen price. A frozen bench coin cannot be swapped in. If a swap window's price can't be verified, every swap queued for that window is cancelled and you keep the swap for the next one.
Compete
Scoring
Your final score is the sum of your six lineup slots' percent price changes plus a small bonus for predicting the finish order, rounded to two decimals. Each coin's return is floored at −100%.
Order points. Each coin earns max(0, 6 − |predicted rank − actual rank|) points, so the total runs from 18 (fully reversed) to 36 (perfect). A random order averages about 24.3. At weight 0.05 the bonus is 0.9 to 1.8 points, and the gap between a random guess and a perfect one is only about 0.6 points — small enough that a strong roster beats a strong guess in nearly every case. Order points are scored on your six opening starters' full-week returns, whether or not they were swapped out, so the prediction stays a single call made before the week starts.
| Coin | Return | Actual rank | Predicted rank | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOL | +5.9% | 1 | 1 | 6 |
| AVAX | +3.9% | 2 | 3 | 5 |
| BTC | +2.1% | 3 | 2 | 5 |
| XRP | +0.8% | 4 | 5 | 5 |
| LINK | −1.1% | 5 | 6 | 5 |
| ETH | −1.5% | 6 | 4 | 4 |
In this example the returns sum to +10.1%, order points total 30, so the bonus is 1.5 and the final score is 11.6.
Tiebreakers, in order: higher final score at two decimals; more order points; higher return on the roster's single best starting stint; still tied — the players share the place.
Integrity
Pricing and settlement
Every coin is priced by a 5-minute volume-weighted average price (VWAP) taken from the median of at least three named feeds, so no single low-liquidity print can decide a week. Any single feed more than 2% from the median is discarded for that window.
| Event | Rule |
|---|---|
| Coin delisted or trading halted mid-contest | Freeze at the last valid VWAP before the event. The frozen price is used as its end price. |
| Price falls to zero or the coin is rugged | Return floors at −100%. |
| Stablecoin, wrapped or staked token depegs | Not applicable: these are excluded from the universe. |
| Fewer than 3 feeds available at settle | Extend the end window in 5-minute steps, up to 60 minutes, until 3 feeds are available. |
| Token migration or redenomination | Score the new token, adjusted by the official swap ratio. If the ratio is unclear, freeze at the last valid price. |
| Platform-wide failure at lock or settle | Contest is delayed until prices are verifiable. If it cannot run fairly, the contest is voided. |
The season
Points, standings and the Wallet
Every league is free to enter and has no prize pool, rake or cash payout. You play for rank, season points and bragging rights — points have no cash value.
Each week every finisher earns season points by percentile, so a strong week counts the same in a field of 50 or 5,000.
| Weekly finish | Season points |
|---|---|
| Top 1% | 100 |
| Top 5% | 60 |
| Top 10% | 40 |
| Top 20% | 25 |
| Everyone else who finishes | 5 |
Season points add up across weeks into the season standings and your lifetime skill rating. The Wallet is your points ledger: contest entries, season points awards and manual adjustments, with each settlement posting as one atomic batch. No money ever moves — no deposits, withdrawals, stablecoin balances or bank links.
Fair play
Fairness and integrity
| Risk | Rule |
|---|---|
| Multi-entry hedging | One lineup per player per contest. |
| Multiple accounts | One account per person; duplicate accounts are removed from standings. |
| Late-entry edge | None: start price is fixed at lock, not at entry. |
| Price manipulation at the close | 5-minute VWAP across 3+ feeds, with outlier rejection. |
| Thin contests | No minimum: with no prize pool, every contest runs at any field size. |
| Insider advantage | Staff and their household are excluded from public standings. |
| Swap timing edge | Swaps fill only at the daily 12:00 ET 5-minute VWAP, queued before 11:55, never at a live price. |
| Disputes | Results publish with per-coin start and end prices and stay open to dispute for 24 hours after settlement. Any correction posts as a ledger adjustment. |
Every day
What keeps a week interesting
- Live top-20% line. The leaderboard shows your rank against the top-20% cutoff, so the daily question is whether you're above the line.
- Per-coin contribution. See each coin's running return and share of your roster score — which pick is carrying or sinking you.
- Alerts. Push notifications when you cross the top-20% line, take or lose the lead, or one of your coins moves more than 10% in a day.
- Result card. A shareable card at settlement with your final rank, best pick and order-call accuracy.
- Skill rating. A lifetime percentile and season points across contests.
- Beginner lanes. Players with fewer than 5 completed contests enter beginner-flagged leagues, so new players aren't matched against experienced ones.
